Access to Jobs Database

The GeoGraphics Lab produced the Access to Jobs relational database in the spring of 1999. It was designed as part of the Welfare to Work initiative in partnership with the Massachusetts Executive Office of Transportation and Construction. With the passage of recent welfare reform legislation, many individuals are being removed from the welfare rolls. To help these people in their transition, they are initially provided with free transportation. This database assists transit systems that provide this transportation by allowing for easy data entry and increasing compatibility with GIS. Once addresses of clients and employers have been inputed, one can easily copy tables into a GIS system such as Maptitude or TransCad for geocoding purposes therefore allowing easy mapping of clients, employers, and childcare centers. Also, this database employs numerous forms and queries to enhance its scheduling capabilities. The package is a Winzip self-extracting archive and has two files. The first is readme.txt which discusses the database in greater detail. The other is the database itself, which is stored as an .mdb file which is MS Access 97 format. Note that you must have MS Access 97 to utilize this database. Also, save the file to your C: drive in a directory called Atjdb. This is necessary for the database to work properly. If you have questions or comments about the Access to Jobs relational database, please call the GeoGraphics Lab at 508-279-6137 or email geomaster@bridgew.edu.
